Student Voice: Where to Buy Cheap Furniture

I can't wait for the spring semester. Not only am I taking some amazing classes, but I'm also going back to campus. It's been almost a year since I've been on campus, so I'm excited to go back.

The only problem is that I'm going to be moving into an apartment and need to get some furniture. I want to buy something cheap and durable. Here are the places I looked for furniture.

Ikea

Ikea’s furniture is sleek and simple, so they fit in any style. They also have a large catalog, so you can choose from a variety of pieces. Ikea is my go-to place to buy furniture. The only caveat is that you have to assemble the items yourself or you can hire someone to help you.

Goodwill

Goodwill is a great place to buy furniture. Going to Goodwill is treasure hunting; you never know what you might find. There’s no way to know what’s in store in advance, so you might not get what you find right away. Don’t worry! Just visit another day and the inventory will change. Because Goodwill is donation-based, you might come back and find the item you need.

By shopping at Goodwill, you're also contributing to a great cause. Goodwill offers free job training and education for those who need it. Get something good for your room while also doing good.

Facebook

Most universities have Facebook pages or groups for their students. You can hop onto those and see if any of your fellow students have things for sale, especially around the beginning and end of the semester. Some people want to get rid of items they don't need and are willing to sell them for a low price. You can also see if your city has a buy and sell group. Most big cities have at least one if not more. Facebook Marketplace is also a good place to check. You can even see how far the people are from you in case transportation is an issue.

Using Facebook is an easy option because you can filter your search easily. Just be careful about who you give your money to. You don’t want to get scammed.

If you’re looking to buy cheap furniture, there are lots of options. It just takes time and effort to find what you need. Happy shopping!
